Jeeraka kanji /cumin flavored rice porridge(Ifthar recipe # 34)

Hi friends,
Today's my recipe is a healthy and tasty kanji(porridge).This is a popular dish in malabar.It is commonly made during the month of ramdan.Please try and feedback.



SUMMARY:

  • Cooking time.............15minutes
  • Total time ..................20minutes

INGREDIENTS:

  • Payasam rice (unangallari)...1/2cup
  • Fenugreek seed (uluva)........1tsp
  • Ashali (cress seed)................1/2tsp
  • Salt .......................................to taste

FOR GRINDING:

  • Grated coconut .......................1/4cup
  • Cumin seed ..............................1tsp
  • Shallots .....................................5nos
  • Coriander seed ..........................1/2tsp
  • Turmeric powder .......................1/4tsp

FOR TEMPERING:


Chopped shallots.................................4nos
Ghee ...................................................1/2tbsp

STEPS:

  1. Wash and cook the rice along with fenugreek seeds,ashali,salt and  required water until it is done.
  2. Grind all above mentioned  ingredients  along with some water to a fine paste.
  3. Once the rice is done,add ground paste and mix well.When it is start to boil off the flame.
  4. Heat ghee in a pan  add chopped shallots and saute until it is golden brown  and garnish. 
  5. Healthy and tasty jeeraka kanji is ready.Enjoy!!!!!!!!!
