Today's my recipe is Gujarati dal, it is very delicious and yummy, its usually serve with thali meal, we made with tomato, you can use tamarind or kokum instead of tomato.

- Toor dal (pigeon peas)..3/4cup
- Turmeric powder.......1/2 tsp
- Slit green chilly.........3nos
- Chopped Tomato......1/2nos
- Grated jaggery..........1/4cup
- Salt...........................to taste
- Lemon juice.............2tbsps
- Chopped cilantro......2tbsp
- Chopped ginger.........1/4tsp
- Oil or Ghee............11/2tbsp
- Mustard seed...........1tsp
- Cumin seed..........1/2tsp
- Garlic cloves.........2nos
- Cinnamon............1 small stick
- Hing.....................1/4tsp
- Chilly powder........1/2tsp
- Wash toor dal and pressure cook with required water.
- When it is done, smash well, then add two cups of water, turmeric,ginger, tomato, green chilly, jaggery and salt, mix well then boil about 10 to 15 minutes, make sure the consistency is semi thick.
- Heat ghee in a pan, add mustard, cumin, chopped garlic, cinnamon, hing and chilly powder, saute few seconds,now pour this mixture into dal, add lemon juice and chopped cilantro, mix well.
- Serve with chapati, rice or thali meals, Enjoy Gujarati dal....!!!!!
TIPS:
- Dal will become thick when it is cool.
- When the dal is more thicker, you can add warm water to correct the consistency, make sure the water is adding before seasoning.
- When the dal is boiled longer, the taste will be better.
