Fish curry (Meen mulakittathu)

This Kerala style fish curry is easy to make and yummy.





SUMMARY:

INGREDIENTS:

  • Fish ....................1/2 kg
  • Onion..................2 small
  • Tomato ...............2nos
  • Tamarind ............a lemon size
  • Chopped ginger....11/2 tbsp
  • Chopped garlic ....11/2tbsp
  • Green chillies ......3nos
  • Curry leaves ........2 sprigs
  • Fenugreek seed ....1/2 tsp
  • Chilly powder ......11/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder...1/2 tsp
  • Fennel seed powder 1/2tsp
  • Salt .........................to taste
  • Water .....................required

STEPS:

  1. Clean and wash the fish and cut into medium size pieces.
  2. Soak Tamarind in warm water, squeeze and take juice, keep aside.
  3. Heat oil in a clay pot add fenugreek seeds stir for a minute, then add ginger,garlic,green chilly,onion, and curry leaves.
  4. When onion  is golden brown add sliced tomato and salt, reduce the flame and cover the pot.
  5. When tomato is soft add Chilly poder,Turmeric powder and Fennel seed powder, stir for two minutes.
  6. Add Tamarnd juice in to the curry and add water as required, keep curry in medium flame.
  7. When the curry starts bubbling,add fish and cook until fish is done.
  8. Switch off the flame and sprinkle curry leaves, 
  9. Fish curry is ready...!!!
